Our Mission
The CCECJ leads projects and aims to support organizations working in the areas of environmental and climate justice to address the social, economic, political, and health effects of environmental racism and climate change impacts in Indigenous, Black, and other racialized communities in Canada. As such, the CCECJ works for the environmental protection of Indigenous, Black and other racialized communities with passion and with a strong commitment to fearless social engagement.
Our Objectives
- Promote and foster a vibrant environmental justice movement in Canada through the development of new environmental justice initiatives and projects
- Serve as a “watchdog” by tracking and reporting instances of environmental racism and climate vulnerabilities in Indigenous, Black and other equity seeking communities
- Increase resilience to environmental racism and climate change for communities affected by these issues
- Compile resources and materials on environmental racism and climate justice to provide education and training
Our Values
Empowerment: We are dedicated to empowering environmental and climate justice groups by equipping them with essential tools, knowledge, and capacity-building resources such as research reports and training sessions.
Advocacy: We stand as committed advocates for the interests of environmental and climate justice supporters and communities impacted by environmental issues, actively engaging in initiatives such as supporting Bill C-226 to defend their rights.
Inclusivity: Our mission is to foster a sense of belonging within the environmental and climate justice movement.
Support: We are committed to providing support in a variety of ways to environmental and climate justice groups, enabling them to advance their crucial work.
Innovation: We create a nurturing space for innovation, encouraging the development of new environmental and climate justice projects, programs, and organizations. We empower others to conceive and implement their own initiatives.
Representation: We actively represent the environmental and climate justice movement in Canada on various platforms, including participation in annual COP meetings, ensuring our voices are included in the global dialogue on climate and environmental issues.
